On October 10th, the 15th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (CISMEF) kicked off in Guangzhou. Representatives of countries along the Belt and Road such as Brazil, Argentina, Russia, France, Japan, Australia and 3,019 companies from across the globe attended the fair.
CISMEF aims to create a platform of “display, trade, exchange and cooperation” for SMEs from all around the world to enhance understanding, cement cooperation, expand exchange and develop together.

Li Xi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, also secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Ma Xingrui, governor of Guangdong Province, Wang Jiangping, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ma Zhengqi, deputy head of the State Administration for Market Regulation, along with the heads of provincial delegations visited the exhibition.
According to Li Xi, the CISMEF is a significant display platform and promoter of trade cooperation and development of SMEs. Guangdong will seize the opportunity presented by the Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to develop CISMEF into a world famous brand.
CISMEF is considered to be one of the most important regional and international platforms in the entrepreneurship sector, attracting more than 200,000 visitors every year.

“The Guangdong government is very supportive of SMEs, especially in terms of tax incentives,” said Shen Guoliang, executive director of Durian Club Sdn Bhd based in Malaysia, in the 15th CISMEF China SME Summit on the afternoon of October 10. In addition to the province’s policy support for SMEs, the Belt and Road Initiative is bringing great business opportunities to a great number of enterprises.

Guangdong is home to a large number of SMEs whose contribution to the province's economic growth exceeded 55% in 2017. Currently, Guangdong is making an effort to improve the business environment and helping more SMEs to transform and upgrade.
During the summit, the Guangdong Business Environment Improvement Evaluation (2018) was released, a report focusing on SME development and the implementation of Guangdong’s various policies to attract investment.
For instance, the report points out that Guangdong is focused on key issues like market access, land use, talent support, which are focal points for foreign enterprises, through the issue of ten revised measures to boost foreign investment.
Also, it suggests that Guangdong is making it easy for enterprise investment projects with the establishment of a “digital government” to realize more intelligent and convenient access to online government services.
